Our Safe Place

Both Kinder Rooms have a "Safe Place" which the children maybe go to if they are feeling sad, frustrated, or angry. It is a place where they can go to change their inner state to composed and relaxed. They are taught different breathing techniques with the help of Shubert, a character in the Conscious Discipline Books we read in the classroom. Shubert is a great teaching tool to help children learn about self-regulation.

S.T.A.R. stands for : Stop, Take a deep breath, And Relax

There are several items found in the Safe Place, such as stress balls and fidget toys for release tension, soft pillows and mats for comfort, a stuffed toy for cuddles, a mirror so the child can look at their facial expressions, Shubert books, posters and other pictures to remind the child of different breathing techniques.
